How to install acrylic bathroom panels: Step-by-step
Heare are the steps you will need to do.
List of materials you will need:
- Safety Goggles (safety first)
- Spirit Level
- Suction Cups
- Power Drill
- Jigsaw
- Silicone sealant
- Sealant Gun
- Set Square
- Circular Saw
- Tape Measure
- Clamps
- Sandpaper
I know this may seem like a lot, but everything has its purpose. Now that you have your goggles on, let’s do it!
Preparing for installation
Don’t put the panels on an angle, let them rest in a horizontal and flat place, so they don’t bend and compromise your walls.
Measuring
Keep in mind that when you get your panels, they will probably already come custom to your wall’s height and width. Remember to get these measures before ordering, so you won’t have to cut them anymore.
First, measure the width and height of your water supply with your tape measure. Now use it to transfer that to the panel with the help of your set square and spirit level, so it is right on the spot.
Cutting
With the help of your saws, cut a little larger than the pipes, so you can adjust it later and place it with ease. If you need to cut a square, use a drill to make a hole on each of the four angles, because making a 90º degree cut with the saw is more likely to break the panel.
If you feel the need, use the sandpaper to smooth the cuts a little.
Sealing and placing
Make sure to see if the back of the type of panel you got needs to be removed, sometimes this adhesive doesn’t need to be removed at all.
Now with the sealant gun make two rolls, at least 4 inches (100 millimeters) apart, and then a zigzag pattern to evenly distribute the silicone sealant. Grab the suction cups, and place them onto the panel, lift it and place it on the wall making sure to leave 3 millimeters at the corner.
Repeat the process with the other panels, and seal the corner where you left the 3 millimeters with the silicone, leaving no place for bacteria build up or mold. Sometimes your panels might come with a corner piece, so there is no need to leave any space in the corners, just place the pieces the same way you did the others.
To finish, use the spirit level to evenly press the panel against the sealant on the wall, so it’s tight!
